Help?

I have been given a choice of three companies for my retirement 403(b) (aka tax-sheltered annuity) fund. I know absolutely nothing about any of them, except that I've heard of TIAA-CREF before. The choices are TIAA-CREF, T. Rowe Price, and Scudder.

So, here are my questions....

1) Has anyone used any of these companies?
2) Are there any things I ought to know about any of them that would help my choice?
3) Has anyone actually had to choose from between these companies, and if so, how did you choose (i.e. why did you choose one over the others)?

ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!

I have used T Rowe Price before, and had no issues. I've never even heard of Scudder.

My parents have TIAA-CREF, and it's the generic teacher's fund. Well, I say generic, but it's the one that *EVERYONE* has. From what I've seen of their stuff, it seems good enough. I do know that if you want to roll your stuff over to something else, it's pulling teeth, though.

Oh wait. My T-Rowe price one gave me issues with rollovers too.

Do you have the prospectus from all three?

Um, what she said. I had a TIAA-CREF account from waaaay back when I worked at Emerson. It certainly was easy enough to deal with until I needed the funds for buying the house. Then it was like hostage negotiation! I don't know what it would have been like to roll it over. It was a little account, but it was growing, the investments were good ones.

1. Sorry, I'm enrolled in the Thrift Savings Plan. Open only to feds, the single largest 401(k) in the US, and with the lowest fees.

2. Not that I can disclose. What I would recommend is that you look into the fees, the type and varieties of fees, how much plan participants paid in fees over the last five years, the historical performance of each plan, the extent to which you are permitted to select options with the plan, the amount of time necessary to vest in each plan, the maximum matching permitted in each plan, and the annuity options each plan provides for.

3. As for selecting, I have not, as my pension is solely under the Federal Employee Retirement System.

I have TIAA-CREF. Seems fine. I have no helpful comments though. I haven't tried to roll anything out of their company.
