Bill's mom died Saturday night. She'd had ALS. What a terrible way to go.

Tim called me yesterday to tell me the news. Weird thing is that I'd been having the feeling I ought to send Bill a card, telling him I was sorry to hear about his mother (i.e. about her having ALS), for a couple days. I had put the card in the mail maybe an hour or so before Tim called.

Bill called me last week, just to talk, and I was in the middle of stuff or I would have talked to him longer. He may have known it wasn't all that far from happening.

I feel badly for him, but I didn't think it was a good idea for me to head up to NJ for the viewing. Are you going?

probably not, between the death among the Foggs (the wake is Thursday) and our long-existing plans to go down to Carolina this weekend that now have family dinners incorporated into it.

Even without the previous plans already being in place (and as Joe mentioned, the other memorial service we'll be at this thursday), it's a heck of a drive to go up there for a few hours and come back. Closer for you than for us (only a two hour drive for you, closer to four for us). I'd rather send him a card and call him (in your case, just send the card).

Can you send me email and remind me what the actual street address is for that apartment?

No, his dad is still alive and kicking, as much as I know. Cyd actually would know better than I would, as I've not spoken to him in over two years.

I thought someone in his family died and you had commented on how you were able to separate yourself from his life and not be affected by it.
I guess it wasn't his dad. Maybe a grandmother?

Hmm...maybe I emailed you shortly after I found out, from Cyd, that his mom had ALS. To my knowledge, no one else in his family has passed away recently. This isn't really affecting me...I just feel sorry for Bill. He's had a tough life already, and this isn't helping things, but it no longer has any bearing on my life.

Does that sound heartless?
